Hasbro and Legendary Entertainment are teaming up to bring the world of Magic: The Gathering to the big and small screens. This ambitious project will encompass both films and television series, with the movie adaptation taking precedence.

Legendary, known for producing successful franchises like Dune, the MonsterVerse (Godzilla vs. Kong), and Detective Pikachu, will oversee the creation of a shared Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe. A statement from Legendary's chairman of worldwide production emphasizes their commitment to carefully developing this beloved intellectual property.

The relationship between this new Legendary project and the previously announced Netflix animated Magic: The Gathering series remains unclear. The report suggests they may be separate entities, although a shift in plans could potentially integrate the animated series into the broader shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering, a globally popular trading card game launched by Wizards of the Coast in 1993 (and acquired by Hasbro in 1999), is a prime candidate for adaptation. This isn't Hasbro's first foray into film adaptations; their portfolio includes successful franchises like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons & Dragons, with several more projects currently underway, including new installments of G.I. Joe and Power Rangers, and even a Beyblade movie.
