Mario Kart World stands out by offering only one edition, available for $79.99. Alternatively, you can opt for the bundle with the Nintendo Switch 2 console for $499.99, which provides a $30 saving compared to purchasing them separately. Keep in mind, the console bundle includes a digital copy, so if you prefer a physical game, you might want to spend the extra $30 for the standalone version.

Yes, the MSRP for Mario Kart World is set at $79.99, which is $10 higher than the standard price for AAA titles on PlayStation and Xbox this generation. While the increase in game prices between console generations isn't something I'm thrilled about, it's understandable given the rising costs of game development. Hopefully, the expansive nature of Mario Kart World justifies the additional expense.

What Is Mario Kart World?

Play

Mario Kart World is poised to be the most ambitious Mario Kart game to date. It features an open-world format similar to the Forza Horizon series, allowing for seamless transitions between races in Grand Prix mode. The game environment dynamically changes with weather and time of day, impacting visibility and traction. You can even explore off the designated tracks, driving "virtually everywhere" across the Mushroom Kingdom. With 24 drivers per race, it's the largest lineup yet in the series.

A new mode called Knockout Tour challenges you to race across the open world, navigating through checkpoints with specific placement requirements. Fall behind, and you're out of the race. For a more relaxed experience, Free Roam mode lets you explore at your own pace, team up with friends, and capture memorable moments with in-game photography.

Stay tuned for more details about Mario Kart World during the upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 17. In the meantime, check out our hands-on preview for additional insights.
