"Marvel Rivals to Launch New Heroes Monthly from Season 3"
Marvel Rivals developers have unveiled an exciting new plan to keep the game vibrant and engaging by introducing new heroes every month starting from Season 3. This significant shift in their content release strategy was announced by Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong during the Marvel Rivals’ Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4. They aim to maintain the game's freshness, akin to its launch, by accelerating the introduction of new characters and shortening the duration of each season from three months to two.
Guangguang elaborated, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month." This approach is a response to player feedback and the pressure to keep the game exciting, as seen in discussions on social media. The developers are also exploring the addition of new game modes to enhance the experience further, potentially leading to up to 12 new heroes added annually.
Balancing these frequent hero additions poses a challenge, but Guangguang reassured fans in a March 14 interview with PC Gamer that the team will rely on key metric data across all game modes, including pick rates, win rates, stats, and abilities, to ensure fair gameplay.
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
Season 2, themed around the Hellfire Gala, introduces Emma Frost, an X-Men villain with telepathic abilities and the power to transform objects into diamonds. She will join the game as a Vanguard. The season features a luxurious celebration on the Mutant haven of the Living Island Krakoa, with new skins for characters like Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, and Black Panther, all dressed in fancy and formal attire. The Hellfire Gala draws inspiration from Marvel’s Hellfire Club, a society of the wealthy and influential.
Following Emma Frost's debut, Season 2.5 will see the introduction of Ultron, a well-known Marvel villain. The Hellfire Gala trailer hints at a dramatic turn of events, with Ultron robots crashing the party and initiating the Age of Ultron. However, further details on Ultron's role are yet to be revealed.
Thor’s Lord of Asgard and Hawkeye’s Ronin Skins Available Now!
Marvel Rivals announced on Twitter (X) on April 4 that new skins for Thor and Hawkeye are now available. Thor’s Lord of Asgard skin reflects his revival by Odin in the comics, while Hawkeye’s Ronin skin is inspired by his time as a vigilante samurai.
Thor's Rune King bundle includes the Rune King costume, spray, nameplate, The Omniscient MVP, and Well of Mimir emote. Meanwhile, the Hawkeye Ronin bundle features the Ronin skin, spray, nameplate, Deadly Rain MVP, and Hone to Perfection emote.
These new and upcoming changes underscore NetEase’s commitment to supporting Marvel Rivals for at least 10 years. The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates on Marvel Rivals, be sure to check out our dedicated article.
