Marvel Star Simu Liu Says He's Working to Get Sleeping Dogs a Film Adaptation

Simu Liu, the star of Marvel's Shang-Chi, is spearheading efforts to revive the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reports Liu responded to a fan on X (formerly Twitter), stating he's actively working with rights holders to bring the game to the big screen.

The project, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, was quietly shelved a year later. Yen recently confirmed its cancellation, citing years of invested time, effort, and personal funds, ultimately thwarted by the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.

Liu's intervention offers a glimmer of hope for fans of the critically acclaimed 2012 video game. The original Sleeping Dogs, released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows Detective Wei Shen as he goes undercover within a Hong Kong Triad gang. The game garnered widespread praise, receiving an 8/10 rating from IGN, yet never spawned a sequel. Whether Liu's efforts will successfully secure the rights and reignite production remains uncertain.
