Medabots Survivor: Classic RPG Meets Bullet Heaven

Apr 01,25

If you're a fan of the Medabots series and have been keeping an eye on global game releases, you might be disappointed to hear that the latest entry, *Medabot Survivors*, is currently exclusive to Japan. Set to launch on February 10th, this new mobile game brings the beloved robot role-playing franchise into the exciting world of bullet heaven action. Unfortunately, for those of us outside Japan, this release remains out of reach.

As reported by Gematsu, Medabots may ring a bell for many who grew up during the post-Pokemon era. When Pokemon soared to fame, there was a significant push to introduce other Japanese franchises with merchandising potential to Western audiences. While Digimon became a household name (and some argue it even outshone Pokemon), Medabots was one of those series that didn't quite make the same impact in the West.

However, in its home country of Japan, Medabots has been a major success. Though not a global phenomenon, it's far more popular there than it ever was here. It's no surprise then that the franchise is venturing into the Survivors-like genre, although for now, only Japanese fans will be able to enjoy *Medabot Survivors*.

**Surviving the Genre**

While the term "Survivors-like" may be new, the genre itself predates the popular game *Vampire Survivors*. The release of *Medabot Survivors* is not just a treat for fans but also a fascinating development as we watch this genre spread globally like wildfire.

Having gained some insight into the Japanese gaming scene, I can tell you there are many fantastic releases that we might never see here. But if *Medabot Survivors* proves to be a hit, there's hope that it might eventually make its way to international audiences.

In the meantime, if you're eager to explore games you can play right now, check out our latest feature in *Ahead of the Game*, where Catherine Dellosa delves into the delightful world of *Cat Restaurant*.
