New Merc System in Age of Empires Mobile
Mercenary Troops System Shakes Up Age of Empires Mobile
Age of Empires Mobile is introducing an exciting new Mercenary Troops system that lets players deploy faction-locked units, available from level 26 with upgradable tech to enhance their power.
Command Historical Hybrid Armies
Ever imagined Joan of Arc leading Roman Centurions? Or Hannibal Barca commanding Japanese Samurai to besiege Rome? This fantasy becomes reality with the new Mercenary Troops update. Once you hit level 26, you'll unlock the Mercenary Camp to recruit these elite warriors.
A special event is currently live where players can obtain their first mercenary units for free. The system also includes tech upgrades to further boost your hired soldiers' battlefield performance.
Diverse Roster of Elite Mercenaries
The update brings formidable units from across history:
- Byzantine Cataphracts
- Swiss Pikemen
- Persian Immortals
- Indian Battle Elephants
- Roman Centurions
- Egyptian Chariot Archers
- Japanese Samurai
- Korean Archers
Each unit type features upgradeable technology to maximize their combat effectiveness.
A Game-Changer With Mixed Reception
The Mercenary system evokes memories of Total War's mercenary mechanics, where hiring foreign troops could turn the tide of battle. However, it may prove divisive among competitive players concerned about historical authenticity and faction balance.
As players experiment with these new options, we might see additional units like the famous Landsknechts introduced in future updates. For now, the system's impact on gameplay remains to be seen.
