Mugen Evolves into Ananta: Project Rebrand Unveiled

NetEase's Open-World RPG, Formerly Known as Project Mugen, Now Rebranded as Ananta

Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? The game has undergone a name change and is now officially called Ananta.

Initially unveiled at Gamescom 2023, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen) has finally released a new trailer after a prolonged period of silence. Further details are promised on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the official trailer:

The Reasoning Behind the Name Change Remains Unclear

Developers haven't yet commented on the name change. Interestingly, both "Ananta" (Sanskrit for infinite) and "Mugen" (Japanese for infinite) share the same meaning. The Chinese title also reinforces this concept.

The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, but there's widespread relief that the project hasn't been cancelled.

Comparisons to Hotta Studio's "Neverness to Everness" are inevitable. While Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, the lack of gameplay footage gives "Neverness to Everness" a potential advantage in the eyes of some players. However, many find Ananta's aesthetic more captivating.

A Mysterious Social Media Purge

Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of video views. Only the Discord server remains, albeit renamed. This unexpected move has left many gamers puzzled.

In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator battling supernatural threats. Key characters include Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
