MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Loses 99% of Players

If Season 5 of MultiVersus doesn't perform well, it might mark the end of the game. According to AusilMV, a reputable insider known for accurate game leaks, Season 5 is seen as a last-ditch effort to revive the game's fortunes. While this remains a rumor, the situation appears increasingly concerning.

Upon its launch in 2022, MultiVersus enjoyed explosive success, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the game's online presence plummeted by 99% shortly thereafter, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite returning with updates in May 2024, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

Season 5 of MultiVersus is scheduled to begin in early February and may represent the developers' final opportunity to rekindle player interest. Essentially, this season serves as a relaunch, although the developers have referred to the initial 2022 release as a "beta." The game was warmly received by players initially, but the announcement in March 2023 of a temporary shutdown in June of that year left many fans, particularly those who had purchased the premium edition in support of the developers, feeling disappointed.
