MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season
MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5
Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus following its fifth and final season. The game's official channels revealed on January 31, 2025, that the servers will power down on May 30, 2025.
Season 5: A Final Curtain Call
The final season, commencing February 4, 2025, will introduce Aquaman and Lola Bunny as playable characters. According to Player First Games and Warner Bros., all Season 5 content will be unlockable through gameplay. Following the season's conclusion, MultiVersus will be removed from digital storefronts (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store). No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.
Offline Play Option Remains
A silver lining for fans: local offline play will remain accessible. Players can enjoy solo or multiplayer matches (up to four players) against AI or with friends. To retain this functionality, players must download the latest version of MultiVersus between February 4th and May 30th. The game will automatically generate a local save file linked to the player's account, preserving purchased and earned content.
Real-money transactions ceased on January 31, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium can be utilized until Season 5's end.
A Retrospective on MultiVersus
Launched in July 2022 as a free-to-play platform fighter, MultiVersus saw a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates. However, despite these improvements, the game faced persistent challenges, including technical issues, player disconnections, and ongoing concerns surrounding its monetization model. Reported player count decreases further contributed to this decision.
At its closure, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support. The game will remain available for download until May 30, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
