Nintendo Switch 2 Image Reveals Mystery Joy-Con Button as C Button
Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, quashing any lingering rumors. This revelation came through the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, whose listings on the App Store and Google Play feature an image that, upon close inspection, clearly shows the letter C on the button.
The new C button was first unveiled alongside the Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images of the Joy-Con did not display any letter on the button. However, consistent with prior reports, it has now been confirmed as the “C” button.
Speculation abounds regarding the function of this new button. Some enthusiasts believe it could be related to wirelessly "casting" the Switch 2 to a TV or enabling screen sharing. Others speculate it might be used to switch the Joy-Con's functionality, such as toggling to a mouse mode. There's also talk that it might enhance group or voice chat capabilities.
Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about the C button and other features. Until then, here's what we know for certain:- Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for release in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
- The Nintendo Switch 2 is larger than its predecessor, featuring larger Joy-Con that can potentially function as a mouse.
- It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, doubling the original Switch's single port.
- The Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, certain Switch games might not be fully compatible.
- A new Mario Kart game is confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2.
