Nintendo has released a new system software update for the Switch and Switch 2, updating both consoles' firmware to Version 20.2.0.

The latest firmware includes several bug fixes for both systems, and according to reliable Nintendo dataminer OatmealDome, it also addresses an issue with the backward compatible Nintendo Switch version of Portal 2 — which no longer crashes after the update.

Other issues mentioned in the patch notes from Nintendo include problems with Parental Control settings and a crash when attempting to connect to a new network.

Nintendo now updates Switch and Switch 2 firmware at the same time, using the same version number for both. However, the content of each update differs slightly — full details on both are listed below.

Yesterday, IGN covered Nintendo's internal changes to guidelines for developers submitting games to its Nintendo Switch 2 eShop — currently only in Asia — apparently as a way to slow down the frequently criticized influx of low-effort "slop" content that has been pushing out other games and causing frustration among users.

Last week, Nintendo confirmed it is discontinuing its Switch Game Vouchers program, which currently allows Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to purchase Switch 1 games at a discount.
