"Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrades for Games Like Breath of the Wild and Metroid Prime 4 Announced"

May 03,25

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that the vast majority of its Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, a select group of games will receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting unique features. Among the titles getting this special treatment are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers distinct enhancements tailored to its gameplay. The showcase kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces a feature called "Jamboree TV". This upgrade includes mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble", and innovative gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.

Following this, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were highlighted. These games will benefit from enhanced resolution, improved framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they will integrate with a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service offers voice guidance to aid in locating Shrines and Koroks and enables players to share their creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR code with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new, exclusive story titled Star-Crossed World, available only on the Nintendo Switch 2, along with upgraded graphics and framerates.

Two upcoming titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, are also getting upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control capabilities, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will see improvements in resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Moreover, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, allowing owners of the original Switch versions to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions.

Later in the presentation, Nintendo also revealed that several third-party titles will receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. These include Civilization 7, which will feature mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will come with exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.

The concept of "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games was teased last week when a footnote on a webpage about the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system mentioned that these editions could not be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
