"Oblivion Remastered's 'Spookmane' Ghost Hunt Engages Community"
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered brings a host of eerie elements to the game—skeletons, spirits, and zombies abound—but a mysterious 'ghost horse' has recently surfaced, unseen in both the original 2006 release and the 2025 remaster. The intrigue began with a Reddit post by user TaricIsNotASupport, who stumbled upon what appears to be a spectral equine entity during their adventures.
Uhhhh, guys, is this new?

"So I was crafting spells in Frostcrag Spire, which is one of my favorite activities in the game. However, upon leaving the Cosy Chaos Spire—a feature that has sparked much debate within the community—I spotted something truly bizarre in the distance," TaricIsNotASupport shared.
Driven by curiosity, they rushed over to investigate and discovered a spectral horse, which they had never encountered despite thousands of hours playing the original Oblivion and over a hundred hours in the remastered version. "I'm not sure if this is a new addition or something I've simply overlooked all this time," they added.
The discovery ignited a community-wide search for answers, with players scouring the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages for any mention of a spectral mount in the original game, to no avail.
To the people asking if I can ride or interact with the spooky horse, yes! 1/2

Addressing queries about the ghost horse, TaricIsNotASupport confirmed they were playing on a PlayStation 5, where mods are not available. They also shared a video of their character riding the spectral steed, which behaves like any other horse in the game, capable of fast traveling and being stabled.
Speculation abounds that this ghost horse might be a glitch, possibly triggered by a misfired spell. Bethesda games are notorious for their bugs, and this could be another intriguing example. "Very weird, the wiki says there are only two unique horses, Shadowmere and unicorns," commented ClaymoreBeatz. "And there's no horse mods that do this, so I highly doubt you're lying about not being on PC. This is probably some sort of glitch in the Remastered version, or a glitched magical effect."
I was asked if Spookmane* can be buffed and if it stays spectral; the answer is yes!

Some players speculate that Bethesda and Virtuos might have included this ghost horse as a hidden Easter egg in Oblivion Remastered, though this seems less probable. The idea of hidden secrets in the remaster is exciting, leading to further speculation about what other mysteries might be lurking within the game.
Many players are eager to replicate the phenomenon to acquire their own ghost horse, but no specific method has been identified yet. In the absence of an official name, TaricIsNotASupport has affectionately dubbed their spectral companion 'Spookmane.' They plan to continue their adventures with Spookmane, intrigued by whether this is a unique occurrence, a hidden feature, or a glitch.
"This creature might be my favorite new friend I've made," TaricIsNotASupport enthused. "Spookmane, you're glorious and I love you."
Oblivion Remastered, crafted by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, boasts a plethora of visual and gameplay enhancements. It delivers stunning 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, alongside significant updates to leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. The remaster also includes new dialogue, an enhanced third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology. Fans have praised these improvements, with some suggesting that the remaster is more akin to a full-fledged remake. Bethesda, however, has clarified their decision to opt for a remaster over a remake.
As players dive into the remastered world, veterans advise newcomers to tackle Kvatch early to avoid the challenges posed by level scaling. Additionally, one adventurous player reportedly managed to explore beyond Cyrodiil into Valenwood, Skyrim, and even Hammerfell, the speculated setting for The Elder Scrolls VI.
