Obsidian's CEO Confirms Smooth Progress on The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed

Obsidian Remains Confident in Upcoming Releases

According to Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart, development of *The Outer Worlds 2* is proceeding well. While the studio's primary focus remains on *Avowed*, Urquhart reassured fans that the *Outer Worlds* sequel is progressing smoothly and is in good hands.

In a recent YouTube interview with Limit Break Network, Urquhart praised the development team, stating, "I’m impressed with the team. We have a lot of people on that game that get it—who have worked on the first one and have been with us for a long time. So I’ve actually been really impressed by it."

Urquhart acknowledged past challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the studio's acquisition by Microsoft. Simultaneous development of multiple titles, such as Grounded and Pentiment, placed significant strain on the team. He candidly admitted, "We were kind of a crappy developer for about a year, year and a half." At one point, the possibility of halting The Outer Worlds 2 to focus on Avowed was considered, but the decision was made to continue development on all projects.

Outer Worlds 2 Development Update"We got acquired [in 2018], and we were figuring out how to be acquired, and then Covid happens, and we're trying to get Outer Worlds done, and we're trying to get the DLC done, and we're trying to move Avowed forward, and we want to start again on Outer Worlds 2, get Outer Worlds 2 moving, and Grounded moving, and Josh is working on Pentiment," Urquhart recalled.

Despite the hurdles, Urquhart highlighted the successful launches of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed his satisfaction with the progress of Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, describing the latter as "looking incredible." While specific game details remain undisclosed, the delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential timeline adjustments for other Obsidian projects.

Outer Worlds 2 Development UpdateAnnounced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited updates. Urquhart acknowledged this and the potential for a release date shift, mirroring the situation with Avowed. However, he emphasized Obsidian's commitment to delivering high-quality games, stating, "We will get there with all these games. Are they going to be on the timelines that we originally thought? No. But we’re going to get there, and I think that’s been proven now." Both games are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
