Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for a significant update, scheduled for late March 2025, which will introduce crossplay functionality. This eagerly anticipated update promises multiplayer across all platforms and the introduction of world transfer for Pals. Although details are sparse, Pocketpair did share a promotional image on X/Twitter depicting various Palworld characters engaging in battle with a formidable Pal.

John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" accompanying the March update. This news is particularly exciting for the 32 million players who have embraced Palworld since its early access launch in January 2024. Pocketpair has outlined an extensive content roadmap for 2025, which includes not only crossplay but also an "ending scenario" and additional new content for the popular creature-catching survival game.

Since its launch on Steam for $30 and its immediate availability on Game Pass for Xbox and PC in January 2024, Palworld has shattered sales and concurrent player records. The overwhelming success led Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, to admit that the studio struggled to manage the game's massive profits. In response to Palworld's breakout, Pocketpair swiftly moved to expand the IP, signing a deal with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, which is focused on broadening the game's reach, including a planned launch on PS5.

However, the shadow of a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company looms over these developments. The companies are seeking an injunction and damages, alleging that Palworld infringes on multiple patents. Pocketpair has addressed these claims by identifying the specific patents in question and adjusting the mechanics of summoning Pals within the game. The studio remains steadfast, ready to defend its position in court, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
