Palworld's PlayStation Debut: State of Play Announcement

As announced during the September 2024 PlayStation State of Play, Palworld launched on PS5 globally. Sony even highlighted the game, showcasing a character sporting Horizon Forbidden West-inspired gear.

Despite this global launch, Japanese PlayStation players are currently unable to access the game. This is attributed to ongoing legal action between Nintendo/Pokémon and Palworld developer Pocketpair.

Palworld's PS5 Japan Release: Date Uncertain

Palworld's Japanese (X) Twitter account explained the situation: the PS5 version launched in 68 regions, but Japan is excluded. They apologized for the delay and stated that a Japanese release date is yet to be determined. The team committed to bringing the game to Japanese PS5 users as soon as possible.

While Pocketpair hasn't explicitly stated the reason for the delay, the ongoing patent infringement lawsuit filed by Nintendo in Tokyo District Court is widely considered the cause. The lawsuit seeks an injunction and damages, potentially leading to Palworld's shutdown if the injunction is granted.
