Much like the ongoing Fashion Week event, players can participate in Field Research tasks during the Lunar New Year event to earn extra bonus rewards.
As Pokemon GO celebrates its ninth anniversary in 2025, fans can look forward to a series of new events and updates leading up to the summer and the much-anticipated Pokemon GO Fest. Among these is the Pokemon GO Tour: Unova, set to occur in Los Angeles and New Taipei City from February 21 to 23. Additionally, a global Pokemon GO Tour: Unova event is planned for March. Before diving into the Unova festivities, players can seize the opportunity to expand their Pokemon collection during the Lunar New Year event.
The Pokemon GO Lunar New Year event will run from Wednesday, January 29, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Niantic promises an increased chance of obtaining Lucky Pokemon through trades during this period, along with a higher likelihood of becoming Lucky Friends, further boosting the chances of getting Lucky Pokemon. Players will encounter Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini more frequently in the wild, with an enhanced chance of encountering their Shiny variants. Moreover, Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi will hatch from 2 km Eggs during the event.

All rewards from Field Research and Timed Research must be claimed by February 2 at 8:00 p.m. local time, so players are encouraged to redeem them promptly upon completion of their tasks.
Players can also enter their Lunar New Year Pokemon into Pokemon GO's PokeStop Showcases to earn additional rewards based on the showcase's outcomes, including item bundles. Niantic has also confirmed that an event-themed Collection Challenge will be available, with completion granting additional Stardust for trading. Frequent traders, in particular, stand to benefit greatly from participating in the Lunar New Year event later this month.
