Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Competitive Plans Revealed
The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be joining its competitive circuit anytime soon. Dive deeper to uncover more about the future of Pokémon TCG Pocket in the competitive scene and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
Currently, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to be integrated into Pokémon's competitive circuit. Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company's Director of eSports, shared in an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, that while they are constantly evaluating different titles for inclusion in the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate horizon.
In a light-hearted moment, Brown mentioned "Pokémon Sleep is out there too," referencing the company's April Fool's parody trailer for the Pokémon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he emphasized, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, though we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced
While The Pokémon Company hasn't officially disclosed the reasons behind excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having released only two sets so far.
Although Pokémon TCG Pocket includes competitive features from the start, players have been vocal about the need for better balance within the game. Compared to the traditional Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon TCG Pocket is designed to be more accessible and beginner-friendly, which might not align well with a competitive environment.
Nevertheless, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to host a variety of events, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all set to be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
