Preorder GeForce RTX 5090, RTX 5080 Gaming PCs Now

Apr 09,25

The first wave of 2025 prebuilt gaming PCs, featuring the cutting-edge Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 and 5090 graphics cards, is now available for purchase. Major retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, Newegg, Adorama, and B&H Photo have launched these new listings, offering gamers a prime opportunity to upgrade their systems with the latest GPU technology. This is your best chance to secure a complete system equipped with these high-performance GPUs, at least until Dell (Alienware), HP (Omen), and Lenovo (Legion) release their own models later in the first quarter.

If you're in the market for a standalone GPU instead, you'll need to look elsewhere. For detailed information on where to preorder the RTX 5090 and 5080 GPUs, check out our comprehensive guide. Be aware, though, that launch-day stock of these GPUs can sell out in a matter of hours or even minutes due to high demand and potential inventory shortages. Retailers have already cautioned about the possibility of stock being snapped up by bots, which often resell the GPUs at significantly inflated prices.

Dell has just launched its new Alienware Area-51 lineup of gaming PCs today. These systems come in two configurations, both featuring an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K and GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, starting at a premium price of $4,449.99. Don't expect immediate availability; Dell estimates that these systems will ship by April 22.

New for 2025: The Alienware Area-51 Chassis

Dell unveiled the new Alienware Area-51 gaming PC at CES 2025. The chassis design retains similarities to the 2024 R16 model but includes minor aesthetic and cooling enhancements along with updated components. The I/O panel is now located at the top of the case instead of the front, and the tempered glass window spans the entire side panel for an enhanced view of the internals. Air intakes have been repositioned to the bottom and front of the case, promoting a positive airflow design for a cleaner interior. The internal components have also been upgraded, including a new motherboard, faster RAM, and a more robust power supply to support the latest CPUs and RTX 50 series GPUs.

Boutique PC Retailers with Built-to-Order RTX 50XX Systems

Some retailers offer the flexibility to customize systems with RTX 5090 and/or 5080 GPUs through their configurators. Retailers such as iBuyPower, Origin PC, Maingear, Starforge Systems, NZXT, and Digital Storm now include new RTX 50-series GPU options. While these built-to-order systems provide access to the latest technology, they can be more expensive and less cost-effective than off-the-shelf solutions.

Dell (Alienware), HP, and Lenovo Prebuilt PCs Coming Later

The major OEMs—Dell (Alienware), HP, and Lenovo—will not introduce their prebuilt gaming desktops with the new RTX 50-series GPUs until later in the year. At CES 2025, Dell showcased its Alienware Area 51, expected to feature Nvidia's new GPUs, with a projected launch in the first quarter. HP plans to offer the RTX 5090 and 5080 as options for the Omen 45L, likely in mid to late February. Lenovo has not yet disclosed a timeline for integrating the new GPUs into its Legion Tower gaming desktops.

Our RTX 5090 FE and 5080 FE Reviews Are Live

Nvidia unveiled the 50-series GPUs at CES 2025, emphasizing new AI features over traditional raster performance improvements. DLSS 4 technology promises to quadruple frame rates with minimal visual impact. While these new GPUs offer a modest performance boost, opinions vary on their value relative to the previous RTX 40-series cards.

In our review of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE, Jackie Thomas noted that "the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has claimed the performance crown from the RTX 4090, but with a smaller generational uplift than previous releases. For non-AI gaming, the RTX 5090's performance increase is modest. However, in games supporting DLSS 4, the performance gains are significant, though 75% of the frames are AI-generated."

Similarly, in our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review, Jackie stated, "If you already own a high-end graphics card from recent years, the RTX 5080 may not justify an upgrade due to its marginal performance advantage over the RTX 4080. However, DLSS 4's Multi-Frame Generation enhances gameplay in supported titles. For those with older GPUs seeking a substantial performance boost, the RTX 5080 delivers, especially if you're open to Nvidia's AI enhancements."
