Rockstar Games Acquires Video Games Deluxe, Establishes Rockstar Australia

Rockstar Games has announced the acquisition of Video Games Deluxe, the developer behind the enhanced Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. The studio has been renamed Rockstar Australia.

Video Games Deluxe boasts a long-standing collaboration with Rockstar, contributing to the 2017 re-releases of L.A. Noire and its VR counterpart, and more recently, overseeing upgrades for the GTA Trilogy on iOS, Android, Netflix, and modern consoles. This acquisition distinguishes Rockstar's work from that of Grove Street Games, the original developer of the Trilogy, which faced criticism for the initial release's quality. Video Games Deluxe was responsible for the subsequent update that addressed many of those issues.

"After a long and successful partnership, we're thrilled to welcome Video Games Deluxe to the Rockstar family as Rockstar Australia," stated Jennifer Kolbe, Head of Publishing at Rockstar Games.

Video Games Deluxe was founded by Brendan McNamara, the founder of Team Bondi, the studio behind L.A. Noire. McNamara commented on the acquisition, stating, "It's been an honor collaborating with Rockstar Games over the past decade. We're excited to join the team and continue creating exceptional games."
