HBO's The Last of Us Season 2: April Premiere Confirmed, New Trailer Unveiled

Sony's CES 2025 showcase delivered exciting news for fans of HBO's post-apocalyptic drama, The Last of Us. A new trailer confirmed the highly anticipated second season will premiere in April. The trailer offered glimpses of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby Anderson and the memorable scene of Dina (Isabela Merced) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) sharing a dance.

While adapting the events of The Last of Us Part II, the seven-episode season likely won't be a complete recreation of the game's narrative. Co-creator Craig Mazin previously hinted that the sequel's story might span three seasons. The trailer itself, clocking in at just over a minute, features several rapid-fire action sequences and emotionally resonant moments from the game, culminating in the reveal of the April premiere date via a red flare. This narrows down the previously announced Spring 2025 release window (March-June).

The trailer, while showcasing some previously seen footage, also included new scenes. Besides the Abby and Ellie/Dina moments, the opening alarm sequence is sure to trigger chilling recognition for gamers. Speculation continues regarding Catherine O'Hara's role, and the Roman numeral styling in the trailer has been noted as a nod to the game's sequel.

Beyond O'Hara's mystery role, fans are also anticipating the live-action debuts of characters from Part II, such as Jesse (Young Mazino), while Jeffrey Wright's return as Isaac Dixon is already confirmed. Season 1 successfully introduced original characters like Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey), Perry (Jeffrey Pierce), Florence (Elaine Miles), and Marlon (Graham Greene), setting a precedent for creative liberties with the source material. The show's continued success, following in the footsteps of acclaimed video game adaptations like Arcane and Fallout, is highly anticipated.
