Skate Expands Playtesting to Include Console Players
Skate Playtest Now Available on Consoles!
Exciting news for console gamers! The highly anticipated skateboarding game, skate., is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. This follows a period of PC-exclusive testing that began in mid-2022.
After the release of Skate 3 in 2010, the franchise went dormant. However, persistent fan demand, fueled by the #Skate4 hashtag, finally led EA to establish a dedicated development team. The announcement of skate.'s early access release in 2025 was met with enthusiasm, and this console playtest is a significant step towards that goal.
Access to the playtest is via the skate. Insider program, requiring registration. A recent video from the development team confirmed additional Black hairstyle options and addressed the slightly delayed playtest originally slated for Fall 2024. While specific gameplay details, such as the improved replay editor, remain under wraps, the free-to-play, live-service title is set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam – a work-in-progress inspired by various real-world and in-game locations. A map leak from 2023 likely differs from the current version.
Other Skateboarding Games to Enjoy in the Meantime
While the 2025 early access launch is anticipated, delays are always a possibility. Fortunately, several other skateboarding games offer a satisfying experience until skate.'s official release.
