Splatoon 3 Updates Ending Has People Looking for Splatoon 4 Release
Nintendo's announcement of ending regular updates for Splatoon 3 has reignited speculation about a potential Splatoon 4. While the game isn't entirely abandoned – holiday events and necessary updates will continue – the shift marks a significant change.
The End of an Era (for Regular Updates)
Nintendo confirmed that regular content updates for Splatoon 3 are concluding. However, festive events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will return, along with ongoing monthly challenges and balance patches as needed. The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."
This news followed the Grand Festival event on September 16th, commemorated by a video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut trio. Nintendo's farewell message, "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!", further fueled anticipation for a sequel.
Splatoon 4: Rumors Intensify
With Splatoon 3's two-year anniversary and the cessation of regular updates, rumors of a Splatoon 4 have surged. Some players believe that locations glimpsed during the Grand Festival could be hints at a new game setting. While some dismiss these as existing assets, others suggest they point towards a new city in a potential Splatoon 4.
Previous reports indicated Nintendo had begun development on a new Splatoon game for the Switch. The Grand Festival, marking the final major Splatfest, strengthens the belief that Splatoon 4 is imminent. Past Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels, leading to speculation about a "Past, Present, or Future" theme for a potential Splatoon 4.
While no official announcement has been made, the confluence of events strongly suggests that Nintendo fans may not have to wait too long for the next installment in the popular Splatoon franchise.
