Square Enix Sparks Final Fantasy IX Remake Buzz

Rumors of a Final Fantasy 9 Remake have been reignited by Square Enix's latest social media post. Explore the details behind the tease and the clues hinting at a potential remake on the game's 25th anniversary website.
A Final Fantasy 9 Remake Announcement Could Be Imminent
Square Enix Hints at a Final Fantasy 9 Remake
Square Enix sent fans into a frenzy with a recent tweet that appeared to tease a new project related to Final Fantasy 9. On April 7, the company shared an image on Twitter (X) featuring the poignant quote, "My memories will be part of the sky…"
This line is famously spoken by Vivi, the beloved black mage, during the game's emotional conclusion. Accompanying the image was the caption "If you know, you know," along with a crying emoji. While not an official confirmation, many enthusiasts believe this could be a hint toward a long-awaited remake.

A Final Fantasy 9 remake has been highly requested by the community, as the original remains a cherished title known for its timeless charm and deeply resonant characters. Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the Final Fantasy series, has even named FF9 as his personal favorite. Following the successful remake of Final Fantasy 7, and given FF9's enduring popularity and upcoming 25th anniversary, many believe the game is a prime candidate for a similar treatment.
This idea was previously discussed by Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida in a 2024 interview, where he reflected on the challenges of remaking such a substantial title. He remarked, "Of course, I’m aware of the demand for a Final Fantasy IX remake. But when you consider the sheer scale of the original game…"
Yoshida added, "…I wonder whether it would be possible to remake all of that content as a single release. It’s a difficult proposition—a tough question to answer."
New 3D Figures Featured on Final Fantasy 9’s 25th Anniversary Website

Square Enix recently unveiled a special website celebrating the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy 9, announcing that several projects are in development to mark the occasion.
This alone fueled speculation about a potential remake. Upon closer inspection, fans noticed something intriguing about the new figurines listed on the site.
New Formism figures of Zidane and Garnet are now available for pre-order via the Square Enix store. What stands out in the product description is the mention that "To commemorate the 25th anniversary, the texture of the costume has been reinterpreted and recreated in three dimensions." This has led to speculation that the updated, modernized character designs might reflect their appearance in a rumored FF9 remake.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, the combination of Square Enix’s cryptic tweet and the ongoing 25th anniversary celebrations gives fans plenty of reason to remain hopeful that a remake is in development.
