Star Wars Celebration Confirms Oscar Isaac Appearance, Sparking Rumors of His Return to the Galaxy Far, Far Away
Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation
Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited fervent speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance and subsequent confirmation for a new Star Wars film. This has led fans to anticipate a similar announcement from Isaac.
Isaac's relationship with the Star Wars franchise has been complex. Following the conclusion of the Sequel Trilogy in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, his stance on returning has evolved. While initially expressing reluctance (in 2020, stating a return would only be for "another house or something"), he later expressed openness to future projects in 2022, telling Variety he had "no real feeling one way or another."
His past criticisms of Disney, specifically their rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (John Boyega's character), haven't dampened the enthusiasm for his potential return. Boyega himself, despite previous negative comments about his experience, has also indicated openness to future roles.
This speculation centers around the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, focusing on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has already expressed a desire for Boyega's return, making a reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio – Rey, Finn, and Poe – a compelling possibility.
While Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer some clarity, the film's release remains uncertain due to Disney's repeated delays of several announced Star Wars projects. Currently, the earliest potential release date for the Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is December 17, 2027.
