Stardew Valley 2 Possible, But Updates Easier, Says Creator

Stardew Valley creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has hinted at the possibility of developing a sequel, stating that he may “eventually make a Stardew Valley 2.” However, he tempered expectations by noting in the same interview with TigerBelly that creating updates for the existing game is far simpler than starting anew. “It’s all the systems — all the major systems — are already all done,” he explained. “That’s the stuff that’s not fun to do.”

For now, Barone seems content to expand the current game rather than build from scratch. He described updating Stardew Valley as adding small, whimsical features, such as “green rain,” with ease. “When I make an update now, it’s like, oh, throw in this, throw in that,” he said.

Despite these sentiments, Barone admitted the idea of a sequel isn’t entirely off the table. “I might eventually make a Stardew Valley 2, to be honest,” he mentioned, though no timeline exists yet.

In the meantime, Barone is focused on his upcoming project, Haunted Chocolatier. While fans eagerly await its release, he emphasized that significant work remains. “There’s still a lot to be done,” he noted, adding that the game must surpass the success of Stardew Valley to meet his standards.
