Trump and Biden Mods Removed from Marvel Rivals, Nexus Mods Owner Faces Threats
The popular game *Marvel Rivals* has found itself at the center of a heated dispute following the receipt of over 500 mods in just one month. Tensions flared when Nexus Mods, a well-known modding platform, decided to remove modifications that replaced Captain America's head with images of political figures Joe Biden and Donald Trump. This decision stirred significant controversy among the gaming community.
The owner of Nexus Mods, who goes by the pseudonym TheDarkOne, addressed the situation in a private Reddit discussion. He clarified that the mods featuring both Trump and Biden were removed simultaneously to prevent any accusations of political bias. "We removed the Biden mod on the same day as the Trump mod to avoid bias. But for some reason, YouTube bloggers are silent about it," TheDarkOne stated, highlighting the perceived inconsistency in media coverage.
However, the removal of these mods led to further escalation. TheDarkOne revealed that following the decision, he and his team began receiving death threats and derogatory insults. "Today we write death threats, call us pedophiles and all sorts of insults just because someone decided to stir up this topic," he lamented, underscoring the severe backlash they faced.
This incident is not an isolated case for Nexus Mods. In 2022, the platform also removed a mod for *Spider-Man Remastered* that replaced rainbow flags with American flags, a move that sparked its own wave of controversy. At the time, the site's owners openly expressed their commitment to inclusivity and diversity, stating their intent to remove content that goes against these values.
In response to the ongoing uproar over the *Marvel Rivals* mods, TheDarkOne concluded firmly, "We're not going to waste our time on people who think this is cause for uproar." This statement reflects Nexus Mods' stance on maintaining a platform that aligns with their principles, even in the face of significant community backlash.
