WoW: Season of Discovery Players Rediscover Notorious Bug From 2005

World of Warcraft's Corrupted Blood Incident Returns in Season of Discovery

The infamous Corrupted Blood Incident, a notorious event in World of Warcraft's history, has unexpectedly reappeared in the Season of Discovery servers. Players have shared videos showing the deadly plague spreading through major cities, sparking both amusement and concern, particularly regarding the impact on Hardcore realms.

The incident stems from the Zul'Gurub raid, reintroduced in Phase 5 of Season of Discovery (September 2024). This 20-player instance, originally part of Patch 1.7 (September 2005), features Hakkar the Soulflayer, whose Corrupted Blood spell deals damage over time and spreads to nearby players. While normally manageable with strong healing, the spell's mechanics allowed for unintended consequences.

In a video posted to r/classicwow, user Lightstruckx demonstrates the debuff's spread in Stormwind City's Trade District. The footage mirrors the 2005 event, where players used pets to deliberately spread the plague across the game world. Lightstruckx's video shows the rapid spread of Corrupted Blood, felling several players in seconds, highlighting the spell's potentially devastating effects.

Accidental Recreation or Unfixed Bug?

The re-emergence of Corrupted Blood has sparked debate. Some players suggest it's an unresolved issue, while others worry about its potential misuse in Hardcore mode, where character death is permanent. The difference between Season of Discovery and the permanent death mechanic in Classic Hardcore is significant.

Despite past attempts to address the issue, the legacy of the Corrupted Blood Incident persists. With Season of Discovery's seventh phase slated for early 2025, the question remains: when will Blizzard Entertainment finally resolve this recurring problem?
