據開發人員稱，沙蟲是具有編程巡邏路線和行為的NPC。您不能召喚蠕蟲來攻擊敵人。但是，諸如穿過沙子或使用thumper的行動可能會吸引附近的蠕蟲，但不能保證。
騎砂蟲是書籍和電影中弗雷曼文化的主食，在《沙丘：覺醒》中也不可用。開發人員將這種遺漏歸因於《沙丘電影》系列的考慮。
未來的更新可能會增加更多的Freman內容，其中可能包括蠕蟲騎行，但這並未證實。就目前而言，這種標誌性活動仍然不可用。
