据开发人员称，沙虫是具有编程巡逻路线和行为的NPC。您不能召唤蠕虫来攻击敌人。但是，诸如穿过沙子或使用thumper的行动可能会吸引附近的蠕虫，但不能保证。
骑砂虫是书籍和电影中弗雷曼文化的主食，在《沙丘：觉醒》中也不可用。开发人员将这种遗漏归因于《沙丘电影》系列的考虑。
未来的更新可能会增加更多的Freman内容，其中可能包括蠕虫骑行，但这并未证实。就目前而言，这种标志性活动仍然不可用。
