The trailer not only unveils a new Xenomorph design but also showcases how closely "Alien: Earth" aligns with the aesthetic of Ridley Scott's seminal 1979 horror film. A scene set within a MU/TH/UR control room, reminiscent of the Nostromo's, captures a crew member's desperate plea for help as the Xenomorph advances. Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, coldly reports that the "specimens are loose," declares the crew dead, and sets the ship on a collision course with Earth. The trailer then shifts to six soldiers approaching what appears to be the crashed vessel, hinting at the peril they are about to face.
The teaser raises numerous intriguing questions. Will Morrow survive? What motivates him? Did any other crew members manage to escape? Was anyone left impregnated by the Xenomorph? And how will the soldiers meet their fate?
"Alien: Earth" is set to explore a scenario where a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, leading a young woman (played by Sydney Chandler) and a group of tactical soldiers to a discovery that confronts them with the planet's greatest threat.
FX’s Alien series is set in 2120, positioned chronologically after "Prometheus" and just two years before the events of "Alien" and the Nostromo's doomed mission. Given its timeline, fans speculate that "Alien: Earth" could depict the Nostromo's departure from Earth or reveal how Weyland-Yutani learned about the Xenomorphs. It serves as a reference point, similar to the recently released interquel "Alien: Romulus," which takes place between "Alien" and "Aliens."In January of last year, showrunner Noah Hawley shed light on his decision to steer away from the backstory provided in "Prometheus" for "Alien: Earth." Hawley, who values the "retro-futurism" of the original films, discussed "many, many elements" of the Alien series with Ridley Scott but chose to focus on the lore established in the initial movies, moving away from the bioweapon backstory.
"Alien: Earth" is slated to premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025, and fans can also look forward to "Alien: Romulus 2," which is currently in development.
