Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed a remarkable milestone by selling over a million copies, as announced by publisher Kepler Interactive. The debut RPG from developer Sandfall Interactive had already demonstrated strong initial sales by reaching 500,000 copies sold within just 24 hours of its launch, and now, it has impressively doubled that number.

"And here we are. Three days after launch. One million copies sold. Thank you for believing in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33," the studio said on social media over the weekend.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 not only achieved this sales milestone but also set a new concurrent player peak on Steam, reaching 121,422 players over the weekend, according to SteamDB. This figure significantly outpaces the concurrent peak of any RPG from the well-known developer Atlus, including Metaphor: ReFantazio, which, upon its release in October 2024, peaked at 85,961 players.

It's important to note that concurrent player counts on Steam do not reflect the full scope of the game's player base. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was released across multiple platforms, including PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X and S, and was available from day one on the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. This suggests that the total number of players engaging with the game over the weekend was likely much higher, indicating its widespread popularity.

In IGN's 9/10 review of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the game was praised as a "modern RPG classic." Developed by the newly established studio Sandfall Interactive, this turn-based RPG draws significant inspiration from genre classics. It follows a group of Expeditioners in a post-apocalyptic setting where a giant entity known as The Paintress annually inscribes a new number, erasing anyone older than it.
