Classic DOOM and DOOM 2 Updated
As fans eagerly await the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classics, playing the original DOOM games to pass the time. Meanwhile, the developers have not only resumed their work but also brought exciting updates to the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation, enhancing the overall experience for both new and veteran players.
The recent update for DOOM + DOOM 2 has significantly improved the technical aspects of the games. One of the key enhancements is the support for multiplayer modifications. To ensure compatibility, mods must be crafted using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. This update also introduces the ability for all players to pick up items during cooperative play, enhancing teamwork and strategy. Additionally, an observer mode has been added, allowing players who are dead to watch the action unfold while waiting to be revived. The multiplayer network code has been optimized for a smoother experience, and the mod loader now supports more than the initial 100+ mods, giving players more freedom to customize their gameplay.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, the developers are focusing on accessibility and customization. Players will have the option to adjust the aggression of demons through the game's settings, tailoring the experience to their preferred level of challenge. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasized that the goal is to make DOOM: The Dark Ages as accessible as possible, offering more customization options than any previous id Software project. Players can modify various aspects of the game, including enemies' damage and difficulty, projectile speed, the amount of damage they take, game tempo, level of aggression, and parry time.
Stratton also reassured fans that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages is not necessary to understand the narratives of both DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal, making the game welcoming to newcomers and series veterans alike.
