Disco Elysium: The Final Cut Launches on Android
The detective RPG, Disco Elysium, is now available on Android in a format specially designed for mobile. Originally launching on PC in 2019, it achieved major success and won numerous awards. Its deep exploration and intricate design were key to its popularity.
What is the story about?
In Disco Elysium, you play a detective in the decaying city of Revachol, a place steeped in grime, competing ideologies, and shattered dreams. A murder needs solving, and that's where you step in. The game is driven by dialogue-heavy interactions and choices that shape your character.
A key feature is the Thought Cabinet. This system changes how your detective views the world, presenting a chorus of internal voices that represent your psyche. You'll interrogate suspects, recite drunken poetry at karaoke, and experience many other bizarre moments.
What's new in the mobile version?
The writing remains just as dense and philosophical as the original, with the same core story and narrative. However, this version truly feels like a portable adaptation of Disco Elysium.
It plays exclusively in portrait mode, featuring new swipe-based navigation that's a significant departure from the PC controls. The experience may feel more linear, as certain areas become locked after you progress. Beyond the removal of scrollbars, you'll encounter shorter text segments and a static camera.
There are also positive changes that improve accessibility. Publisher ZA/UM has introduced a 360-degree view system, helping mobile players feel more immersed in each location.
The original voiceover work is complemented by new hand-painted visuals in specific scenes, preserving the game's unique artistic style.
Disco Elysium Mobile lets you play the first two chapters for free, requiring a one-time payment to unlock the full game. You can find it on the Google Play Store.
