Efficiency in Minecraft: Everything You Need to Know
Maximize Your Minecraft Mining with Efficiency Enchantments!
Minecraft's vast world invites endless creativity and exploration, but mining remains a core gameplay element. While rewarding, repetitive mining can be tedious. The solution? Efficiency enchantments! This guide explains how to leverage this powerful enchantment to boost your mining speed and reclaim precious playtime.

What Efficiency Does
Efficiency significantly accelerates block breaking for compatible tools: pickaxes, shovels, axes, hoes, and shears. The enchantment only boosts the speed for the tool's intended material (e.g., axes are faster on wood, not stone). Five levels exist:
- Level I: 25% speed increase.
- Level II: 30% speed increase.
- Level III: 35% speed increase.
- Level IV: 40% speed increase.
- Level V: 45% speed increase (minimal improvement over Level IV). Only pursue Level V if resources allow.

Enchanting Your Tools
To apply Efficiency, you need an enchantment table. Craft one using:
- 2 Diamonds
- 4 Obsidian
- 1 Book

Obtaining Efficiency V
The enchantment table can't directly produce Efficiency V on stone or diamond tools. Combine two identical tools with Efficiency IV on an anvil to achieve Efficiency V. Alternatively, experienced players might find Efficiency V diamond tools in End cities.

Efficiency and Shield Stunning
Beyond mining, Efficiency on axes increases the chance of stunning shields. Level I provides a 25% chance, increasing by 5% per level.
