Final Fantasy VII Rebirth DLC Maybe Coming, if Fans Demand It
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Release: Director Discusses Mods and DLC Possibilities
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared insights into the game's upcoming PC version, addressing player interest in mods and potential DLC. Read on for details.
DLC Dependent on Player Demand
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final installment of the Remake trilogy. Hamaguchi stated, "We did have the desire to add an episodic story as a new DLC to the PC version," but ultimately decided against it to focus on the highest priority: finishing the final game. However, he left the door open, suggesting that significant player demand could influence future DLC decisions. "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them."
A Message to the Modding Community
The PC version of FF7 Rebirth, while lacking official mod support, is expected to attract modders. Hamaguchi addressed this, stating, "We respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations—though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate." This reflects a reasonable approach to managing the potential for inappropriate user-generated content.
PC Version Enhancements
The PC release boasts graphical improvements, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing criticisms of the PS5 version's lighting. Higher-end PCs will benefit from superior 3D models and textures beyond the PS5's capabilities. The team also highlighted challenges in adapting mini-games for PC controls, requiring significant work on key configuration settings.
Release Date and Availability
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025. The game originally released for PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread acclaim.
