GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Sales Soar

Feb 12,25

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) continues to defy expectations, selling an impressive 5 million copies in the last three months alone. Released in September 2013, it remains a sales juggernaut and one of history's best-selling video games.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2), released in October 2018, also saw a sales surge, adding 3 million copies to its already substantial 70 million total in the recent quarter.

The enduring success of GTA V is significantly fueled by GTA Online, its consistently updated multiplayer component. Take-Two Interactive's commitment to ongoing content, such as the December 2024 Agents of Sabotage update, keeps players actively engaged.

Looking ahead, Take-Two has confirmed a fall 2025 release for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI. Further bolstering their upcoming lineup, Mafia: The Old Country is slated for a summer release, with Borderlands 4 expected later in the year.

While concerns about potential delays for Grand Theft Auto VI are understandable, Take-Two's recent financial report reaffirmed its autumn release window. Similarly, Borderlands 4's release this year has been confirmed, although specific dates remain unannounced.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged Rockstar's meticulous development approach, suggesting that, as with previous titles like GTA V and RDR2, additional time may be needed. This statement, however, didn't alter the fall release window for GTA VI.
