Marvel Rivals Developer Considers Nintendo Switch 2 Release
The widely popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals is enjoying tremendous success on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer, NetEase, has firmly stated that the game will not be released on the current Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans. But there's good news on the horizon with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
During the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to discuss this with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. Excitingly for Switch enthusiasts, a release on the Nintendo Switch 2 seems highly possible. Wu shared, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch was that the first generation of that device couldn't provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled just last month, though specifics on its capabilities remain sparse. It promises to be a more powerful iteration of the Nintendo Switch, featuring a larger design. One notable feature is the potential for mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, making it feel more akin to PC gaming. However, details on how this will function are yet to be fully disclosed.
While the Nintendo Switch 2 doesn't have a confirmed release date, a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, which might shed more light on its launch. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received a strong 8/10 in our review, where we noted that it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can look forward to the addition of The Human Torch and The Thing to the game on February 21.
