Metaphor: ReFantazio has a chance to become a series - game director
Hashino, when discussing the studio's future, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Regarding Metaphor: ReFantazio, Hashino confirmed there are no current plans for a direct sequel. While the game was initially conceived as a potential third major JRPG franchise alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, the focus remains on completing the current title. The director aims for Metaphor: ReFantazio to become a flagship project for Atlus.
Although a sequel isn't on the immediate horizon, the team is already working on their next project. An anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is also under consideration. The game itself has been a significant success for Atlus, achieving the company's best-ever concurrent player count on launch, exceeding 85,961 players. This surpasses the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
