Omori Digital Exclusive in Europe
Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical issues related to multilingual European localization as the reason for this decision. Read on for details and the reasons behind fan disappointment.
Omori's European Physical Release Cancellation
A String of Delays Leads to Cancellation
Meridiem Games' Twitter (X) announcement revealed the cancellation of the physical release. While the publisher stated technical difficulties with localization, further details were not provided in response to fan inquiries.
Fans point to a history of delays. Initial listings showed a March 2023 release date, which was pushed back to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025. Pre-orders were ultimately cancelled, leading to the current announcement.
This cancellation is a significant blow to European fans, especially considering it would have been the first official release in Spanish and other European languages. While importing a US copy remains an option, the lack of an official European physical release is disappointing.
Omori, an RPG following Sunny, a young boy coping with trauma, blends reality and a dream world where he becomes Omori. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, the game expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox release was removed due to an inappropriate T-shirt design previously sold by OMOCAT.
