Paradox CEO Laments Life by You Cancellation
Paradox Interactive CEO Admits Mistakes, Highlights Life by You Cancellation
Paradox Interactive's CEO, Fredrik Wester, recently acknowledged missteps in the company's recent financial report (July 25th), specifically citing the cancellation of Life by You as a significant error in judgment. Despite strong performance from core titles like Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis, Wester openly admitted to strategic miscalculations in projects outside their established genres.
The decision to cancel Life by You, a life simulation game intended to rival The Sims, represents a notable setback. Despite a substantial investment of nearly $20 million and initial promise, the game ultimately failed to meet internal expectations, leading to its cancellation on June 17th. This departure from Paradox's usual strategy game focus proved challenging.
Further compounding the difficulties were performance issues plaguing Cities: Skylines 2 and repeated delays affecting Prison Architect 2, despite achieving platform certification. These setbacks underscore the need for a critical review of Paradox Interactive's game development approach.
Wester emphasized the company's strong foundation built on the success of its core franchises, offering a counterpoint to the self-criticism. By acknowledging their mistakes and focusing on their strengths, Paradox Interactive aims to regain momentum and continue delivering high-quality gaming experiences.
