Play and Conquer: Controllers Elevate PC Gaming

Feb 11,25

PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse control, especially for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are surprisingly better with controllers. Games emphasizing fast-paced action, reflex-based movement, or melee combat often feel more intuitive and responsive using a gamepad. This is particularly true for titles originating on consoles before porting to PC.

While many PC releases offer keyboard and mouse support, several titles released in late 2024 and early 2025 highlight the advantages of gamepad control. While games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force are arguably better with keyboard and mouse, some exceptions exist. For instance, Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered offers a slightly improved experience with a gamepad, though the difference is minimal.

Several upcoming releases show potential for enhanced gamepad play:

  • Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port following the Monster Hunter formula, suggesting controller compatibility.
  • Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently benefits from gamepad control, and this remaster is expected to follow suit.
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given the predecessor's superior controller experience on PC, and the similar combat system, a gamepad is likely preferred.
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A PS5 port to PC often implies controller prioritization, although keyboard and mouse may still be viable.

A 2024 Soulslike game, detailed below, further illustrates this point.
