Sony's PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are bringing the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. The exciting news was revealed at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, who stated, "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a film based on our incredibly popular game, Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space combat sequences on the silver screen.

Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a captivating shooter reminiscent of the classic Starship Troopers. Its phenomenal success is undeniable, achieving the status of PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. The game's popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.

Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures—the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie.

Qizilbash offered a preliminary glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project: "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure viewers: this world and its characters will receive their first cinematic presentation."
