Pokemon GO Event Adding Long-Requested Feature for a Limited Time
Summary
- Pokémon GO players can use remote raid passes in Shadow Raids during Fashion Week: Taken Over.
- Higher IV Pokémon are available during these Shadow Raids.
- This remote raid pass access for Shadow Raids is temporary.
Niantic has announced a significant update for Pokémon GO: for the first time, remote raid passes will be usable in Shadow Raids during the upcoming Fashion Week: Taken Over event. Introduced in 2023, Shadow Raids have become a popular way to catch powerful Pokémon.
As 2025 progresses, Niantic continues to update the popular augmented reality game. Following January's Ralts Community Day, a surprising and long-awaited feature arrives: remote raid pass functionality in Shadow Raids.
The Pokémon GO Fashion Week: Taken Over event, running from Wednesday, January 15th, 12:00 a.m. to Sunday, January 19th, 8:00 p.m. local time, allows trainers to participate in one-star, three-star, and five-star Shadow Raids remotely or in person. Participating in Shadow Raids offers a chance to catch Pokémon with higher IV stats.
Pokémon GO Temporarily Introduces Remote Raid Passes for Shadow Raids
While limited to Fashion Week: Taken Over, remote battling extends to the Shadow Ho-Oh Raid Day on January 19th, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. This raid day boosts shiny Shadow Ho-Oh encounter rates and offers the chance to teach it the Sacred Fire charged attack. A Charged TM can also be used to remove Frustration from Shadow Pokémon.
The ability to use remote raid passes in Shadow Raids is a highly requested feature since their 2023 introduction, generating excitement among players. However, it's crucial to note that this functionality is temporary and will end after the Fashion Week: Taken Over event concludes.
Whether Niantic will permanently enable remote raid passes for Shadow Raids remains uncertain. Past criticism regarding the in-person requirements for Dynamax and Gigantamax battles suggests a permanent implementation of this feature would be welcomed by many players.
