Rebel Wolves Aim for Witcher 3 Quality in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Rebel Wolves, a studio formed by former developers of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, has introduced their latest project, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Although the game won't reach the full scale of a typical AAA title, the team's aspirations are sky-high. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the founder of Rebel Wolves, has set the bar high by aiming for a quality level akin to The Witcher 3, but within a more manageable scope:

“We want AAA quality, like The Witcher 3—that’s our heritage. But as a small studio on our first project, we’re creating something more compact yet just as polished.”

The Blood of Dawnwalker is expected to provide players with 30 to 40 hours of gameplay. Tomaszkiewicz puts this into perspective by comparing it to The Witcher 3, which was designed for over 100 hours but often stretched into 200 to 300 hours:

“Comparing anything to The Witcher 3, which was meant to last 100+ hours but often exceeded 200-300 hours, is crazy. But is size what makes a game AAA? Call of Duty is AAA without a massive campaign. So, does scale really matter?”

He also challenges the industry's use of labels like "AAA" and "AAAA," suggesting they are essentially meaningless. The Blood of Dawnwalker is an action RPG that follows the journey of a half-vampire protagonist who has 30 days and 30 nights to rescue his loved ones. Despite the time constraint, the game promises a seamless experience. It is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and is slated for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, though an exact release date has yet to be announced.
