Red Dead Redemption 2 Rumored for Nintendo Switch 2 by 2025 End

May 17,25

Exciting news for fans of Red Dead Redemption 2—rumors suggest that a port for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 might be on the horizon, potentially launching by the end of 2025. GameReactor cites sources "close to Rockstar" who claim that alongside the Switch 2 version, a "next-gen upgrade patch" is in the works for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. This upgrade aims to enhance the gaming experience on current-gen systems.

While specifics remain under wraps, GameReactor indicates that both the port and the upgrade could be released as early as later this year. Nintenduo echoes these sentiments, suggesting that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 could hit the market within Take-Two's current financial year, ending March 31, 2026. Whether it will be available digitally or as a physical edition is still up in the air.

When Red Dead Redemption 2 first debuted in 2018, IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review hailed it as a "masterpiece," awarding it a perfect 10/10 score. The review praised the game as a "meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era."

The possibility of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 might not be a complete shock. In a recent Q&A with investors following Take-Two's financial results, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed "great optimism" for Nintendo's new platform. He highlighted Nintendo's improved support for third-party publishers this time around, stating, "We're launching four titles with Nintendo Switch 2, and that's I think a bigger array of releases than we've ever offered before with a new Nintendo platform."

Zelnick elaborated, "Historically, being a third-party in the Nintendo business has been a bit challenging. I think Nintendo has been very forthcoming in addressing that. And we're stepping up too, because we have great optimism for the platform. In terms of what we would bring to any platform, we address it on a case-by-case basis, we obviously want to be where the consumers are. But we would not necessarily bring every title to every platform. There are also great catalog opportunities as well."

Take-Two is set to bring Civilization 7 on the launch day of June 5, along with the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (though specific titles and release dates are yet to be announced), and Borderlands 4 on September 12. Given that Take-Two was already publishing these franchises on the original Nintendo Switch, their inclusion isn't surprising. However, Zelnick's comments suggest that the door might be open for further releases, possibly from Take-Two's extensive back catalog. While GTA 6 might not make the cut, classics like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 could find their way to the new platform.
