EA's VP Vince Zampella recently provided an update on the status of the Need for Speed franchise. With over two years having passed since the release of NFS Unbound, EA remains silent on future installments.

The reason for this quiet period is Criterion Games' current commitment to developing the next Battlefield title. Zampella emphasized that this new Battlefield is EA's top priority, a project incorporating extensive player feedback and involving four separate studios. EA is dedicating significant resources to ensure its success.

Zampella's previous statements highlighted a commitment to learning from the mistakes of Battlefield 2042, which faced considerable criticism upon release. This player-centric approach extends to future content for NFS Unbound.

It's highly probable that EA will refocus on Need for Speed only after the launch and initial post-launch support for the new Battlefield concludes. This delay may prove beneficial; recent NFS entries haven't met fan expectations. A strategic reboot, prioritizing player feedback and allowing time for past disappointments to fade, could be a shrewd approach.

In short, anticipate no immediate announcements regarding new Need for Speed games.
