Disney Sets EPCOT Test Track Reopening Date
In addition to sharing exciting new details, Disney has confirmed that Test Track presented by General Motors at EPCOT in Walt Disney World Resort will reopen on July 22, 2025.
As highlighted on the Disney Parks Blog, this refreshed attraction now includes an entirely new musical score and "new scenes that showcase how technology makes our vehicles smarter and our daily lives more enjoyable."
One of these new scenes illustrates "how cars can utilize advanced cameras and sensors to 'perceive' the world around them." It demonstrates the concept of self-driving cars navigating without human input and explains how LiDAR technology helps enhance safety for everyone.
Disney also pointed out a shift in approach: while previous versions of Test Track were set in a "conceptual world," the latest redesign is "firmly grounded in reality." To capture that realism, a portion of the ride simulates a scenic drive through the Pacific Northwest.
"With our reimagined Test Track, we’re focusing on the sheer joy of driving and the experience of a memorable road trip with family and friends," explained Nathaniel Gearhart of Walt Disney Imagineering. "These are the kinds of journeys that create lasting memories."
To bring that vision to life, the design team selected four specific tree species—Cedar, Spruce, Maple, and Oak—to authentically represent the region. They also added abundant overhead foliage to form a rich tree canopy throughout the ride environment.
The original Test Track opened in 1999, with a major update in 2012. Now, Test Track 3.0 is set to debut in 2025 after closing for refurbishment on June 17, 2024.
This is just one of several new experiences guests can look forward to at Walt Disney World this summer. It's also one of our 14 reasons why this season is an ideal time to visit the resort, especially with the Cool Kid Summer celebration underway.
