Ubisoft: Assassin's Creed Shadows Preorders 'Solidly Tracking,' Match Odyssey
Ubisoft remains confident about the upcoming open-world adventure, Assassin's Creed Shadows, asserting that it has secured a robust number of preorders despite facing challenges during its development and promotional phases. In their recent financial report, the publisher noted that "preorders for the game are tracking solidly, in line with those of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the second most successful entry in the franchise."
Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot, echoed this optimism, emphasizing the company's full focus on the launch scheduled for March 20. "Early previews have been positive, praising its narrative and immersive experience," Guillemot stated. He highlighted the critical roles both characters play in the game's storyline and commended the quality and complementarity of the gameplay facilitated by the dual protagonist approach. "I want to commend the incredible talent and dedication of the entire Assassin's Creed team, who are working tirelessly to ensure that Shadows delivers on the promise of what is the franchise's most ambitious entry yet."
Assassin's Creed Shadows faced multiple release date shifts, initially planned for November, then moved to February 14, and finally set for March 20. This series of delays has heightened anticipation among fans, who are eager to explore the long-awaited Japan-set entry, the first full Assassin's Creed game since 2020.
The game's success is crucial for Ubisoft, which is looking to rebound from recent underperformances and address investor concerns. However, the promotional period for Assassin's Creed Shadows has been marred by several controversies. The development team issued apologies for inaccuracies in the game's portrayal of Japan and for unauthorized use of a historical recreation group's flag. Additionally, collectible figure maker PureArts withdrew an Assassin's Creed Shadows statue from sale due to its "insensitive" design. These issues, combined with the delays, have fueled growing impatience among the fanbase.
