"Unlocking the Deep Woods: A Guide for Fields of Mistria Players"
Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map, but it remained inaccessible until the game's March 2025 update. Here’s how to access the Deep Woods and find Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*.
How to Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
To unlock the Deep Woods area in *Fields of Mistria*, you need to break the Fire Seal and utilize the new Dragon’s Breath spell to clear the vines blocking the entrance. Start by placing four specific items on the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. You can find the first three items on floors 50 to 59, but acquiring the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.
To help Balor obtain the Sealing Scroll, deposit the following items in the bin by his wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
After meeting these requirements, speak to Balor again. He will inform you that the scroll will be available the next day, allowing you to complete the offering at the altar.
Typically, breaking magic seals results in a few parting words from the mysterious mines Priestess, concluding the task and unlocking a new biome. However, this time, the Priestess warns you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health depletes, Caldarus appears in his human form, retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.
Caldarus then requests that you find him at his temple, gifting you the Dragon’s Breath spell. This spell can burn through the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance and other previously inaccessible areas. To use it, equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and activate it while standing in front of the area’s entrance. This action will permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other areas.

How to Find Caldarus
After breaking the Fire Seal, you can locate Caldarus inside his temple in the Deep Woods. The temple is situated north of the Eastern Road on your map, and you'll need the Dragon’s Breath spell to access it. Caldarus' exact location is marked on your map, similar to other NPCs, and you'll find him in the northeast corner of the area.
To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to chop down the stump blocking your path. Continue north until you reach the temple, where Caldarus awaits inside.
Once the Deep Woods area is unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the Deep Woods and visit Caldarus at any time. The teleportation costs just 10 Essence, making it a convenient option compared to traveling on foot or horseback.
You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue, albeit in spirit.
NOTE: Fields of Mistria is currently in Early Access, and content is subject to change. The above information is accurate as of Version 0.13.0 and will be updated as necessary if anything changes.
Fields of Mistria is available to play now in Steam Early Access.
